Sheryl L Hood

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday August 22, 2013 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Thursday with Ellis Sills officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 23, 2013 in Oak Grove Cemetery, Oakland, IL. Memorials may be given to the Shelbyville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Sheryl was born on November 2, 1948 in Mattoon, IL, the daughter of Harold Franklin and Evelyn Ilene Henderson Starwalt. She graduated from Charleston High School in the Class of 1966 and then Sparks Business College in Shelbyville, where she served as a member of the Sparks College Student Board. Sheryl worked at Shelby Memorial Hospital as a Nurses’ Aide and a Ward Clerk for about 26 years. She later owned and operated Sheryl’s Place, a home health business, in Shelbyville. Sheryl was a former member of the Tower Hill Lioness Club. She married Charles Jesse Hood on June 14, 1969 in Hidalgo, IL. He died on April 22, 2011.

She is survived by her children, Laura Uphoff of Shelbyville, IL, Jesse Hood of Cowden, IL and Richard Hood (Kelly Lenz) of Nokomis, IL; brother, Dennis Starwalt (Linda) of Charleston, IL; sisters, Donna McDonald (Oscar) of Gays, IL, Brenda Schmitt (Randy) of Dickson, TN, Anita Swart and husband Bob of Lerna, IL and Linda Hobbs (Bill) of Bloomington, IN; and three grandchildren, Zachary Uphoff, Adam Uphoff (Paulina Whalen) and Brieanna Lenz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Charles.
