Shirley J Grove

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in Strasburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Kathy Lewis officiating. Visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Monday in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg. Burial will be in Grace Cemetery, Strasburg. Memorials may be given to Strasburg United Methodist Church or Shelbyville Community Dialysis.

Mrs. Grove was born on July 25, 1936 in Shelbyville, the daughter of Robert and Effie Osborn Wheat. She graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School in the Class of 1954. She retired from IHI Turbo America, Shelbyville on March 15, 2000. She was a member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church and Strasburg American Legion Auxiliary Unit 289. She married Lester Gene Grove on June 6, 1954 in Stewardson. He died on June 26, 2004.

Surviving are her sons, Larry Grove of Shawnee, OK and Lanny Grove and wife Susan of Princeton, KY; daughters, Patty Laue and husband Jerry of Beecher City and Pam Fry and husband Dennis of Shumway; seven grandchildren, Mandi and Josh Grove of Oklahoma City, OK , Ryan Grove of Shawnee, OK, Jonathon and Melissa Laue of Beecher City and Travis and Jason Fry of Shumway; and one great granddaughter, Alexis Acy of Oklahoma City, OK.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester; brother, Kenneth Wheat; and sister, Fern Wheat.

Shirley’s grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was always the first one to call after a game to ask whether we won or lost. She was always excited to hear about good grades or any other of their accomplishments. She relished all hugs and kisses from them.
