Shirley JoAnne Pfeiffer, 77, of Shelbyville, IL, died at 3:05 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 in Decatur Memorial Hospital with family by her side.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2014 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Synodically Authorized Minister, Marilyn Dudley officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, near Shelbyville, IL. Memorial may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.

Shirley was born on December 26, 1936 in Shelbyville, Illinois, the daughter of Ross and Gussie (Rittgers) Pierce. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1954. Shirley married Clayton Leigh on March 19, 1955 and later married Robert “Bob” Pfeiffer on May 24, 1975. She retired from the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) after 31 years of service. Shirley enjoyed bowling on a league team for many years. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and the University of Illinois basketball team. Shirley was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church, near Shelbyville, IL. She played the piano by ear and enjoyed playing at church, nursing homes and with the Kitchen Band of the Villas of Holly Brook. She loved to entertain and help people out when they needed it. Years ago, Bob and Shirley were seen many times helping relatives reroof their homes.

She leaves a daughter, Cheryl (Ron) Faulkner of Shelbyville, IL; son, Brian Leigh of Shelbyville, IL; step-children, Rob (Kara) Pfeiffer and Cheri Pfeiffer all of Shelbyville, IL, Brenda Pfeiffer (Ty Harris) of Bartlett, IL and Terry Pfeiffer of Bloomington, IL; brothers, Richard (Diane) Pierce of Independence, MO and Roger (Jackie) Pierce of Shelbyville, IL; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob Pfeiffer on January 3, 2000; and siblings, Leon Pierce, Doris Brown-Jordan, Johnny Pierce and Frances Hebenstreit.
