Silas M Boyer

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2013 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Richard Eident officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted by Greenland Masonic Lodge #665 of Beecher City at 9:30 a.m. Monday followed by visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Monday all in the funeral home. Burial will be in Richland Cemetery, Strasburg, IL with military rites by Strasburg American Legion Post #289. Memorials may be given to the Windsor Christian Church or Heartland Christian Village in Neoga.
Mr. Boyer was born on June 3, 1916 in Linton, IN, the son of Clinton Daniel and Katherine Elizabeth Heineman Boyer. He graduated from high school in Patricksburg, IN. Silas then entered the U. S. Army in 1941 and was a veteran of WW II. He was a meat cutter for Yakey’s and Wente’s in Stewardson, IL and later for Shanks in Mattoon, IL and the Masonic Home in Sullivan, IL. He was a member of the Windsor Christian Church, Strasburg American Legion Post #289 and Greenland Masonic Lodge #665 of Beecher City. Silas was a former member of the Strasburg Lions Club. He enjoyed gardening, ballroom dancing and playing the saxophone, violin and harmonica. He married Maxine B. Price on September 27, 1943 in Indianapolis, IN. She died on May 13, 1998.
He is survived by his daughters, Marcella Cardinal and husband Gary of Plainfield, IL and Katherine Manhart and husband Noel of Strasburg, IL; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine; two brothers, Roger and Paul Boyer; and one sister, Bernice Boyer.
