Steven Dale “Steve” Tucker, 71, of Shelbyville, IL, formerly of Cowden, IL, passed away at 8:55 a.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2024, in his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2024, in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Pastor Don “Satch” Thomas officiating and Pastor Ron Tucker assisting graveside. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:30 p.m. on Saturday in the funeral home. The burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Steve was born on September 15, 1953, in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Corwin and Mary (VanHorn) Tucker. He graduated from Cowden High School in the Class of 1971. Steve grew up on the family farm near Cowden and helped with grain and livestock farming at an early age. He worked full-time as a tire builder at Firestone in Decatur until the plant closed in 2001. In addition to operating his farm, Steve worked for CF Industries, Inc. in Cowden and United Producers, Inc. in Shelbyville. Steve raised purebred Texas Longhorn Cattle on his farm and was a Texas Longhorn Breeders Association member. He was also a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Shelbyville and the United Steelworkers of America, Local #713 of Decatur. Steve was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and loved being the “Ice Cream Man” for his family and friends. He married Pamela Sue “Pam” Huber on June 2, 1973, in Shelbyville, IL.
Steve is survived by his wife, Pam; son, Travis Tucker (Heather) of Lakewood, IL; daughters, Traci Hassinger (Chris) of Germantown Hills, IL and Tara Fatland (Kevin) of Frankfort, IL; eleven grandchildren, Haleigh, Skyler, Elly, and Sadie Hassinger, Sydney, Kade, Tucker, Austin, and Owen Fatland, and Georgia and Eli Tucker; brothers, Gary Tucker (Mary Ann) of Altamont, IL and Ron Tucker (Joy) of Assumption, IL; sister, Cheryl Ballinger (Steve) of Pleasant Plains, IL; and sister-in-law, Rosalie “Rosie” Tucker of Effingham, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Corwin and Mary Tucker; brother, Dennis Tucker; and sister, Sharon Elaine Tucker in infancy.
