Sue L Hauck

A celebration of Sue’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2014 in the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Dan Seibert officiating. Visitation from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Sunday in the church. Inurnment will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children (St. Louis Unit) or the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville.

Sue was born on August 27, 1933 in Denver, Colorado to William and Elva Erickson Lawson. Sue grew up in Memphis, Tennessee and after completing high school there, she received her AA Degree from Christian College in Columbia, Missouri. She graduated from Missouri University with a BA Degree in 1955. She and her husband, Merton Hauck, were married that same year.

Sue belonged to several organizations. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta in college and a past Regent of Kuilka Chapter DAR, past president of A.B.W.A., past president of Shelbyville Education Association, past president of Shelby County Retired Teachers Association, and Queen Mother of Shelbyville Red Hats. Sue was the chairperson of the Senior Citizens Committee when the Senior Center was built. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church and Eastern Star, both in Shelbyville.

Sue will be missed by her family and friends and the many students she influenced in her 42 years of teaching Jr. High Language Arts. She took a year off from her teaching duties to earn a Master’s Degree from Eastern Illinois University.

She leaves her husband, Merton, of 58 years; sons, Rev. John (Judi) Hauck of Washington, IL; Russell (Laurie) Hauck of Henderson, Nevada; and Rob (Catherine) Hauck of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Lawson of Marietta, Georgia.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Bill Lawson.
