Teddy J Dove
(October 20, 1939 – November 27, 2012)
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2012 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home with Rev. Bradley Smith and Gary Crowder officiating. Visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with military rites. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church for the Parsonage Fund or the Food Pantry Fund.
Ted was born on October 20, 1939 in Mode, IL, the son of Edgar Fern and Florence Daisy Burns Dove. He was the youngest of eleven children. Ted graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School in the Class of 1957 and then served in the U. S. Air Force. Ted was a successful businessman and owned and operated T & D Auto Parts in Shelbyville for 12 years. He returned to college and earned his Nursing Home Administration License, demonstrating to his family that it is never too late to set a new goal and achieve it.
He married Rose Mary Peifer on June 2, 1973. Ted was a devoted husband to his wife, Rose Mary and a loving father to Rebecca Dove, Alana Dove and Gabriel Dove. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Madison Dove; brother, Robert Dove of Florahome, FL; sisters, Wilma Cossiboom of Pana, IL and Doris Johnson of Minnesota; brother-in-law, Earl Peifer and wife Lisa of Shelbyville; sisters-in-law, Martha Dove of South Dakota and Decka Johnson of Carlyle, IL.
Ted was an encourager to many people. He often went out of his way to help others because it was the right thing to do. He was a gentleman with a heart of gold and a quick wit. He was willing to play games with the children in his life and teach them to be good and honest people. He was a dedicated fan of St. Louis Cardinal Baseball and Illini Basketball. Ted was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Jackson Masonic Lodge #53 and Moose Lodge #1294 all of Shelbyville. He will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind and the world will be a bit sadder for this loss. But we know we will see him again in heaven.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Novella Lape, Eileen Tarr, Wanda Hunt, Dorothy Syfert, Patricia Dove, and Barbara Mandernach; brother, David Dove; and special brothers-in-law, Raymond Cossiboom and James Johnson.
