Thelma C Shanks

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. David Conant officiating. Visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday with Order of Eastern Star Services at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Tower Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Tower Hill United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Shanks was born on November 1, 1912 in Tower Hill, Illinois, the daughter of Elmer E. and Grace L. True Cannon. She was a graduate of Tower Hill High School in the class of 1930. She worked for the Federal Government for 37 years as an accountant in Decatur, Chicago and the last 30 years in Washington, D.C. She worked 25 years with the Atomic Energy Commission requiring F.B.I. Secret Security Clearance. She retired in January, 1973 and returned to her home in Tower Hill. She was a lifetime member of the Tower Hill United Methodist Church and a member of the Mazeppa and Arcana Chapters of the Order of Eastern Star since 1931. She was a member of the D.A.R., United Methodist Women, Cold Spring Home Extension and Tower Hill Women’s Club. She married Wendell C. Shanks on May 28, 1938 in Clinton, Illinois. He died on May 24, 1982.
Surviving are her nephew, Howard Shanks of Paris, IL; cousins, Nancy McDonald of Tower Hill, IL, Joanne Purdue of Mesa, AZ, Geraldine Landholt of Plymouth, IN and Richard Mansfield of Beaverton, OR; and second cousins, Beverly Ann Twiss of Decatur and Betty Jo Henderson of Long Beach, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
