Vera L Stewardson
(December 16, 1924 – August 13, 2016)
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2016 in the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville, IL with Gary Crowder and Rev. Dan Seibert officiating followed by a celebration of her life party at VFW Post #4829 in Shelbyville from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. In lieu of flowers, please support one of Vera’s favorite organizations: Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81, VFW Post #4829, Shelby County Community Services, Christmas Angel of Love Project or one of your choice.
Vera was born on December 16, 1924 in London, England, the daughter of Albert and Madge Lillian (Bouchier) Oakley. She attended nursing school in England. Vera met and married Lane Stewardson on November 7, 1944 in London, England. Following WW II, Vera made her home in Shelbyville. For a short time she worked as a registered nurse at Shelby Memorial Hospital. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Vera was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville, IL and volunteered countless hours for many organizations.
She is survived by two sons, John Stewardson and Paul (Marla) Stewardson all of Shelbyville, IL; three daughters, Jenifer (Jack) Harvey and Wanda Brooks all of Shelbyville, IL and Sara (Dave) Stewardson-Blackwell of Eugene, OR; nine grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lane Stewardson on November 16, 1973; son, Ray Stewardson; and brother, Derek Oakley.
