Vera May Kite, 90, of Shelbyville, died at 12:30 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2007 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2007 in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Lynette DeAtley officiating. Visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Stewardson Cemetery, Stewardson, Illinois. Memorials may be given to the Lupus Foundation.

Mrs. Kite was born on May 2, 1917 in Stewardson, the daughter of Edwin C. and Oka Ann Hagan Grove. She was a graduate of Eastern Illinois State Teachers College. Vera was a retired school teacher. She taught for over 30 years, 22 of them were in one room rural schools. She was a member of Moulton United Methodist Church of Shelbyville and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association. She married Charles W. “Joe” Kite on September 1, 1942. He died on November 12, 1997.

Surviving are her son, Jimmie Joe “Jim” Kite and wife Aveleah of Shelbyville; four grandchildren, Sarah Edwards and husband Pat of Shelbyville, Mark Kite and wife Ashley of Shelbyville, Brent Kite of Shelbyville and Rachael Kite of Charleston; and four great grandchildren, Sam Kite and Brandon, Katelynn and Hannah Edwards.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one infant brother, Ray Grove in 1926.
