Veralee Wilcox

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, 2010 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Elder Christine Ober officiating. Visitation from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Shelby Humane Society.
Mrs. Wilcox was born on February 14, 1921 in Keenes, Illinois, the daughter of William Everett and Ora Mae Shaw Burkitt. She worked in garment factories for many years and later cleaned homes in Shelbyville. Veralee was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Pana, IL. She married Guy E. Wilcox on March 30, 1941. He died on September 1, 2007.
Surviving are her son, Glenn Wilcox and wife Madeline of Mode; daughter, Carolynn Wilcox of Shelbyville; sisters, Lela Pierce of Bluford, IL, Alice French of Belvidere, IL and Ruth Witzel of Mt. Vernon, IL; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Guy; sister, Nadine Grunder; and brothers, John, Dale and Lowell Burkitt and one in infancy.
