Vernon Frederick "Rick" Hoover, Jr.

Vernon Frederick “Rick” Hoover, Jr., 70, of Clarksburg, IL, passed away Wednesday April 9, 2025, in his residence.

Rick was born on July 2, 1954, in San Antonio, TX, the son of Vernon Frederick Sr. and Betty Jo (Woodworth) Hoover. Rick married Nancy L. Gatons on August 25, 1972, and they were married for 52 years. Rick proudly served in the United States Army from 1972-1979, during the Vietnam Era. Following his military service, Rick worked for FS in Shelbyville and later as an iron worker for Curry Construction in Mattoon, IL, retiring in August 2004. Rick was a dedicated family man. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and attending their sporting events and activities.

Rick is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Tonya K. Patton (Scott) of Taylorville, IL; sons, Jamie L. Hoover (Neka), Justin L. Hoover, Jason L. Hoover, and Jared L. Hoover (Lucy) all of Shelbyville, IL; eight grandchildren, Ian, Faith, Valorie, Race, Jascin, Lillian, Elijah, and Breaton; and two great grandchildren, Dyani and Hudson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and four siblings.

In keeping with Rick’s wishes, the family will honor his life privately. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. In recognition of Rick’s military service, memorials may be given to Disabled American Veterans and mailed to Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, 415 N. Broadway, Shelbyville, IL 62565.
