Viola Mary Slifer, 98, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at noon on Saturday, August 10, 2013 in Shelbyville Manor.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2013 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Don Devore and Chaplain Tim Haworth officiating. Visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville or the American Heart Association.

Mrs. Slifer was born on August 18, 1914 in Effingham, IL, the daughter of Edward and Flora Musson Devore. She married Thomas Jefferson Slifer on August 23, 1933. He preceded her in death in 1975. Viola was employed at Sta-Rite Ginnie Lou, Inc. in Shelbyville, IL for five years and also worked at Packard Motor Car Company in Detroit, MI during WW II. She was affiliated with the First Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville. Viola enjoyed working in her yard and around her house and also spending time with family.

She is survived by her daughter, Bari Lynn Mose of Shelbyville; two half-brothers, Eldon Devore and wife Sharon of FL and Don Devore and wife Sharon of Mode, IL; grandson, Bryan Mose and wife Tracy of Springfield, IL; granddaughter, Brittany Pierce and husband Travis of Shelbyville, IL; and five great grandchildren, Ashley, Molly, Haylee and Kaylee Mose and Liam Pierce.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom; son-in-law, William R. Mose; three brothers, Kenneth, Frank and Dale Devore; two sisters, Mildred Washburn and Edna Nutter; and two half-sisters, Ruth June Coleman and Jean Burzawa.

The family would like to thank The Villas of Hollybrook, Shelby Memorial Hospital, Shelbyville Manor and Harbor Light Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Viola.
