Vivian J Kessler

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 20, 2012 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, IL with Rev. Steven Becker and Rev. Chad Lueck officiating. Visitation from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday and one hour before services Friday both in the church. Burial will be in Stewardson Cemetery, Stewardson, IL. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL. Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran School in Stewardson.
Vivian was born on July 7, 1932 in Strasburg, IL, the daughter of Louis Frederick and Edna Louise Telgmann Stremming. She was a graduate of Strasburg High School in the Class of 1950. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Strasburg and was active in St. Paul’s Blanket Making and Pause for Peace Ministries. She married Charles William Kessler on May 27, 1951. They operated a dairy farm together for twenty-five years. He died on March 30, 1976. Vivian continued maintaining the family farm for thirty-five years following his death.
Surviving are her children, Teresa Alwardt (Steve) of Litchfield, IL, Twilla Kessler (special friend Ron Ruholl) of Stewardson, IL, and Michael Kessler (fiancée Beth Willis) of Stewardson, IL; sister, Beulah Ulmer of Strasburg, IL; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Karol Kessler of Stewardson, IL, Mary Mechling (Orval) of Decatur, IL, Don Kessler (Ann) of Mode, IL, Helen Brown (Harold) of Silver Lake, IN, Janice Cordell of Sullivan, IL, Carol Reardon of Centerville, OH, Roger Kessler (Wanda) of Mode, IL and Ron Beitz (Tanya) of Stewardson, IL; grandchildren, Sarah Alwardt Gracey (Jeremy), Andrew Friese (Beth), Matthew Alwardt (BettyAnn), Katie Alwardt King (Justin), Joshua Matheny, Kara Matheny (fiancé Caleb Chamoun), Colton Koontz and Rachel Kessler; great grandchildren, Jacob Gracey, Nathaniel Gracey, Kyra Perry, Hunter Friese, Chace Matheny, Callie Friese and Samuel Gracey; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Edna Stremming; husband, Charles W. Kessler; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Irvin and Hazel Kessler; granddaughter, Susan Adelle Alwardt; brothers-in-law, Richard Ulmer and Glen Lee Kessler; and sisters-in-law, Norma Hobson and Janet Beitz.
