Wayne E. Shoemaker, 52, of Shelbyville, IL, died at 4:00 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2017.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2017 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Ken Reedy officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday. Memorials may be given to Saving Orphaned Animals, Shelbyville, IL. A luncheon will follow at V.F.W. Post #4829 in Shelbyville, IL.

Wayne was born on January 29, 1965 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of William Jessa and Virginia Eleanor (Weakly) Shoemaker. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1983 and from WAEI Trade School, Wichita, KS in 1984. Wayne began his work career as an auto body technician for Bitzer and Taggart Chrysler Dealership, Shelbyville, IL in 1984. He later worked for Wrangler Trucks, Inc. 1987-89, Neal’s Body Shop 1989-1994, and Halbrook Auto Body and Paint 1994-2004 all in Shelbyville, IL, Tate & Lyle in Findlay, IL 2009-2014 and IHI Turbo America in Shelbyville, IL from 2014 to present. Wayne was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #409 in Findlay, IL. He enjoyed playing golf, cooking, mushroom hunting and attending Sprint Car races. He married Susan (Reedy) Sampson on August 29, 2015.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; step-children, Jake Sampson (Tracie) of Petersburg, IL, Jarred Sampson (Jessica) of Jacksonville, IL and Jacqlin Fair (Kyle) of Mt. Zion, IL; brothers, Robert Shoemaker and Floyd Shoemaker (Donna) all of Decatur, IL, and Norman Shoemaker of Westervelt, IL; sister, Eleanor Stewardson (Chester) of Shelbyville, IL; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Norma Reedy of Shelbyville, IL; brothers-in-law, Larry Reedy (Donna) of O’Fallon, MO and Ken Reedy (Marsha) of Auburn, IL; five grandchildren, Gavin Sampson, Wesley and Brynlie Sampson, Dezi and Mia Fair and one more on the way; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his special “mom”, Vera Stewardson.
