William A. ”Bill” Kroening, 90, of Shelbyville, died at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, December 30, 2007 in his residence.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, in Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Rev. E. Wade Helmkamp officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 until time of service in the church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Shelbyville.

Mr. Kroening was born on February 8, 1917 in Effingham County, Illinois, the son of Martin and Ida Beccue Kroening. He worked for the Oliver Corporation in Shelbyville and then Blaw-Knox in Mattoon until his retirement. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Shelbyville. He married Evalena L. “Eva” Marten on November 12, 1938. She died on August 7, 2003.

Surviving are his son, Bill Kroening and wife Sue of Mattoon; daughter, Marilyn Patterson of Strasburg; five grandchildren, Kathy Yakey of Mode, Cindy Neff of Brownsburg, IN, Julie Miller of Mattoon, Terry Kroening of Mattoon and Debbie Frash of Indianapolis, IN; 11 great grandchildren, Adam Funk, Jordan, Marcus and Whitney Miller, Rachel and Amanda Neff, Tyson & Tanner Kroening and Hannah, Kelly and Morgan Frash; and two step great grandchildren, Shawna and Veronica Frash.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eva; son, Robert J. Kroening in 1968; and son-in-law, Robert Patterson in 2003.
