William Shelton “Bill” Lamb, 77, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 6:50 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2016 in his residence.

Bill was born on March 18, 1939 in Niantic, Illinois, the son of Charles O. and D. Leone Shelton Lamb. He started school at South Bend Country School with six other students. Over the years the smaller schools were consolidated and he graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1957. That summer he worked with heavy equipment. In October of the same year he joined the U.S. Marines for a three year tour and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, CA and El Toro in Irvine, CA. He was ranked E4 Corporal when he was honorably discharged in 1960. Bill had a love of skydiving, but refused to fly later in life.

Bill married Eula Cohan in 1962. They started a family and had five children, Bill Lamb, Jr. (Rhonda) of Midland, TX, Wayne Lamb of Yukon, OK, Tom Lamb of Yukon, OK, Nancy Brooks of Midland, TX and Tina Hobbs of Midland, TX.

Bill retired from International Union of Operating Engineers Local 965 in Springfield, IL after 50 years of service. After his retirement, Bill raised cattle and drilled two oil wells. He enjoyed riding horses and passed this on to his children and grandchildren.

Bill met Vivian Frye in 1980 and together they raised Vivian’s children, Corey Frye of Shelbyville, IL, Tammy Kelp (Steve) of Shelbyville, IL and Ronnie Jacobs of Pana,. IL; and her grandson, Zachary Frye of Shelbyville, IL.

He is survived by his children; grandchildren; brother, Steve Lamb of Missouri; and sisters, Kay Mentz of Aurora, CO and Charlotte Richardson of Phoenix, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles Lamb, Jr. and Richard “Dick” Lamb; sisters, Beverly Davidson, Jane Harrington; and grandson, Joshua Brooks.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Graveside services will follow in Tower Hill Cemetery, Tower Hill, IL with Jim Michael officiating and military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the donor’s favorite charity.
