William D. “Bill” Renner, 82, of Shelbyville, the Lord granted him peace at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2010 in Shelbyville Manor.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2010 in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with Rev. E. Wade Helmkamp officiating and military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Shelbyville or Shelby County Honor Guard.

Mr. Renner was born on March 20, 1928 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Homer L. and Clara Alice Martz Renner. He worked for the railroad and then Sta-Rite Ginnie Lou, Inc. in Shelbyville before entering military service. Bill served in the U. S. Army and was a veteran of WW II and the Korean War, where he was a paratrooper and artilleryman. He was blinded on July 3, 1951 while in serving in Korea. He then worked for International Harvester in Chicago. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Shelbyville and a life member of Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81 and V.F.W. Post # 4829 both in Shelbyville. Bill was a ham radio operator and enjoyed fishing, coon hunting and walking around Shelbyville with his Seeing Eye dogs.

Surviving are his brother, Raymond Renner and wife Sheila of Stewardson; sisters, Hazel Riley and husband Ralph of Cowden, Helen Hudson and husband James of Shelbyville and Eva Roberts and friend Gale Clay of Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews, including special nephew, James Hudson, Jr. of Shelbyville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Robert D. Renner in 1989 and Homer Renner, Jr. in 1999.
