William E. “Tuffy” Lowe, 83, of Shelbyville, died at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2009 in Shelby Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, May 9, 2009 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. E. Wade Helmkamp officiating. Visitation from 11:00 a.m. Saturday until time of service. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with Military Rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to V.F.W. Post #4829 of Shelbyville, Shelby County Honor Guard or the American Diabetes Association.

Mr. Lowe was born on May 15, 1925 in Shelbyville, Illinois, the son of William L. and Lena Millie Hagan Lowe. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II, Italian Campaign, and a life member of V.F.W. Post #4829 of Shelbyville. He worked for Conrail Railroad for 43 years, retiring in 1984 as a bridge foreman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He married Virgie Lee Harmon Canada on October 11, 1957. She died on February 14, 2002.

Surviving are his sons, John Lowe and wife Darcy of Decatur, Charles Canada and wife Lola of Tacoma, WA, Clayton “Butch” Canada of Shelbyville and Steve Canada and wife Theresa of Shelbyville; daughters, Marilyn Hudson and husband Bob of Shelbyville, Sandy Smith and husband Lloyd of Assumption, Jean Day and husband Bob of Beecher City and Donna Bourey and husband Alan of Boulder, CO; nephew, Dave Houston and wife Evelyn of Shelbyville; niece, Sandy Pritchard of Fairbury; 28 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sons, Bill Lowe and Mike Canada; and sister, Eleanor Houston.
