William Joseph “Bill” Baird, 88, of Shelbyville, IL, died at 8:42 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2017 in HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital in Shelbyville, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Linda Trent officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Casual attire is requested. Burial will in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to Fourth Street United Methodist Church in Shelbyville, IL or the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Baird was born on January 12, 1929 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Carl Leroy and Hazel West Baird. He was a U. S. Army veteran of WW II. Bill worked for the U. S. Postal Service for over 43 years. He was a member of the Fourth Street United Methodist Church in Shelbyville, IL, U. S. Postal Workers Union and Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81 of Shelbyville, IL. He married Roma E. Riedel Tull on September 12, 1973.

He is survived by his wife, Roma; sons, Terry Baird (Marla) of Chatham, IL, Randy Baird (Marcy) of Shelbyville, IL, Samuel Tull (Pam) of Shelbyville, IL, and Douglas Tull of Dallas, TX; daughter, Gayla Stirewalt (Todd) of Highland, IL; daughter-in-law, Chris Tull of Indianapolis, IN; sister, Peggy Huber of Shelbyville, IL; 13 grandchildren, Trevor, Carla, Dustin, Jason, Brandie, Sara, Josh, Chris, Ken, Brianna, Kalli, Cole, and Tara; 11 great grandchildren, Bailey, Owen, Will, Gavin, Hannah, David, Sonja, Jasmine, Kyler, Kaleb, and Julia; and “extra kids”, Becky and Barry Evans both of Shelbyville, IL.

He was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Carl and Telva Baird; mother and step-father, Hazel and Bill Lewin; daughter and son-in-law, Sonja and Raymond Butler; son, Kenneth Tull; sister, Marjorie Leming; and great granddaughter, Susan Baird.
