William K Durst

Funeral services will be 12 noon on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation from 10:30 a.m. – noon on Wednesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to Ansar Shrine of Springfield or First Christian Church of Shelbyville.
Mr. Durst was born on June 5, 1922 in Shelby County, Illinois, the son of Keith and Eula Miller Durst. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1939 and attended Sparks Business College in Shelbyville. He served in the US Army Air Force in WW II as a tail gunner. He farmed in the Findlay area until his retirement. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81, VFW Post #4829, Moose Lodge #1294, Shelby County Shrine Club, Jackson Masonic Lodge #53 all of Shelbyville and Ansar Shrine of Springfield. He married Helen Hunter Swiney on January 15, 1944.
Surviving are his wife, Helen; children, Kay Gibson and husband Jim of Shelbyville, Robert W. “Bud” Swiney and wife Margaret of Findlay and Ann Vaughn and husband Dan of Sherman; eight grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
