William W. Thompson, 86, of Shelbyville, IL died at 5:43 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2012 in his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, October 2, 2012 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation from 5:00 – 8:00 pm Monday, October 1, 2012. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the Senior Center or the First Christian Church in Shelbyville.

Mr. Thompson was born on August 31, 1926 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of William E. and Grace Walden Thompson. Bill worked for Carl Grabb Motors, Massey Ferguson and retired from Decatur Public Schools Maintenance Department in 1988. He loved his motorcycles, having ridden from 18 years old until the summer of his 84th birthday. He also loved fishing, woodworking and dancing. Bill was a member of the First Christian Church in Shelbyville, where he served as a deacon. He married Doris Johnston Hamilton on August 27, 1978. They spent 34 wonderful years together.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; son, Darrell Thompson and wife Linda of Pana, IL; daughter, Marla Ursprung and husband Joe of Bethalto, IL; step-son, Brett Hamilton and wife Darla of Jacksonville, IL; step-daughter, Janet Russell and husband Chris of Shelbyville, IL; grandchildren, Corey Fry, Kevin Thompson, Dara Thompson, Erika Thompson (Mark Davis), Nathan Russell, Michael Russell, Nicholas Hamilton, Clark Hamilton and Paige Hamilton; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Colin Davis and Gracie Thompson; and sister, Maxine Strohl of Shelbyville, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clifford Thompson and wife Gloria and Homer Thompson and wife Doris; sister, Marie Hennings and husband Don; brother-in-law, Billie Strohl; and step-son, Terry Hamilton.
