Wilma Lou Spannagel , 89, of Strasburg, IL, passed away at 4:06 pm. Friday, July 29, 2022 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Hospital, Effingham, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 5 th , 2022 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, IL with Rev. Kene Whybrew officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday August 4 th and one hour before service time on Friday, both in the church. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Strasburg, IL. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, IL or Christ Lutheran Church of the Deaf in Central Illinois, Jacksonville, IL.  Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL.

Wilma was born on May 25, 1933 in Clarksburg Township, Shelby County, IL, the daughter of Warren E. and Esther Grace (Hunter) Ragan. She attended Grade School and High School in Strasburg. Wilma married Lloyd Ray Spannagel on December 8, 1949 in Strasburg, IL, and he preceded her in death on January 20, 2012. Wilma was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Strasburg. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, making pies and spending time with her family.

Wilma is survived by her son, Gregory John Spannagel and wife Michelle of Shelbyville; daughters, Dianna Lynn Gibson of Strasburg, Patricia Ann Williams and husband John of Pana, and Barbara Lou Ohnesorge of Strasburg; brother, Merle Ragan of Effingham; grandchildren, Jason Spannagel and wife Amanda of Carterville, IL, Ashley Holmes and husband Stephen of Nixa, MO, Danell Condron and husband Tim of Mattoon, Abbey Giles and fiancé Ricardo “Coco” Salgado of Salem, IL, Joshua Spannagel and wife Beth of Stewardson, Chelsey Weber and husband Mike of Oconee, Dylan Ohnesorge and wife Amelia of Stewardson, and Collin Ohnesorge  of Granite City, IL;  18 great grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Kohnert and husband Robert of Effingham, and Donna Schultz and husband Larry of Stewardson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd; brothers, Rollin and Robert Ragan; sisters, Rosalie Schultz, Carol Jones and Corma Hurst; and son-in-law, Donald Gibson.
