Wilmer C. Fisher, 91, of Batavia, IL, formerly of Shelbyville, Peoria and Crystal Lake, IL, died at 5:10 a.m. Monday, January 25, 2010 in Michealsen Health Center, Batavia, IL.

Funeral services and Masonic rites will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2010 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Visitation from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to Jackson Masonic Lodge #53, 125 N. Broadway, Shelbyville, IL 62565 or Vitas Hospice, 580 Waters Edge, Suite 100, Lombard, IL 60148.

Wilmer was born on February 12, 1918 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Fred C. and Addie L. Wortman Fisher. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1936. He was a resident of the Holmstad Retirement Community in Batavia. Wilmer was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Jackson Masonic Lodge #53 of Shelbyville. He was a former maintenance superintendent for the Shelbyville Public Schools, Richwoods Community High School of Peoria and the Crystal Lake High School District. Wilmer was a gifted woodworker and leaves behind many beautiful and much-loved pieces of furniture made for his family and friends.

Wilmer married Viola L. Ross on September 3, 1939 in Herman, IL. They had a wonderful and loving 67 years together until her death on July 12, 2006. He leaves behind his daughters, Jeanie L. (John) Van Leirsburg of Batavia and Janet L. (Richard) Colvin of Brimfield, IL; brother, Ervil W. Fisher of Shelbyville; and sister-in-law, Illa Fox of Shelbyville. Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, C. Mark (Maureen) Colvin of Dunlap, IL, Darren (Angela) Colvin of Bedford, NH, Tracie (Marquis) Lake of Mason, WI, and Morgan (Michael) Connell of Batavia, IL; and five great grandchildren.

His parents and his beloved wife, Viola, preceded him in death.

Wilmer was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
