Zelma M Weibel
(March 29, 1912 – July 17, 2008)
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008 at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville with Rev. Lee Lovett officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to the Shelbyville Garden Club or to the Shelbyville Area Community Foundation for a bench to be placed on the General Dacey Trail.
Mrs. Weibel was born on March 29, 1912 in DeWitt, Nebraska, to Roy C. and Etta Mae (Rathbun) Prather. She married Roland O. Weibel on August 8, 1937. Zelma’s life was focused on her family and children. Owning her own beauty shop before she was married, sewing drapes, and gardening all provided for her family and were activities she loved and passed on to her children. She loved the outdoors and was a Girl Scout leader in Champaign for many years. She also was a leader of the youth program at the Wesley Foundation in Urbana. Later on her favorite actives of sewing and gardening took on new forms with a backyard full of flowers and quilts for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Shelbyville Garden Club and the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville.
Surviving are her sisters: twin sister Velma Smith of DeWitt, NE, and younger sister Pauline Burton of Benton, AR; five children: daughter Virginia (Dale) Stierwalt of Tolono, IL, twins Judy (James) Yockey of Shelbyville, IL and Jerry (Mary Lynn) Weibel of Biggsville, IL, daughter Joann (John) Moe of Bellevue, WA, and daughter Cheryl (Dan) Modzelewski of Shelbyville; eleven grandchildren: Peggy Stierwalt, Doug (Jamie) Stierwalt, Jeff (Sandy)Yockey, Jack (Robin) Yockey, Jerry (Wendy) Yockey, Will (Dana) Weibel, Wendy (Dan) Hale, Jim (Lisa) Moe, Jen (Pat) Lehman, Audrey (Adam) LeGrande, and Nick (Tonya) Ridge; and twenty-one great grandchildren: Josie Stierwalt, Raena and Ginna Stierwalt, Sarah and Jonathan Yockey, Erin and Neil Yockey, Molly and Maggy Yockey, Kelcy and Mason Weibel, Tyler, Evan, and Ryan Hale, Rain Moe, Avery Lehman, Madeleine and Kate LeGrande, Tessani Foster, and Andrew and Matthew Modzelewski.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Roland on July 29, 1974; and sister Maxine Greenlee.
