Rebecca W Freeman

Rebecca Ward Freeman, 60, of Shelbyville, passed away at 8:31 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church of Shelbyville, Shelby County Historical Society or Shelby Humane Society.

Becky was born on August 26, 1948 in Decatur, Illinois, the daughter of James Alvin and Ella May (Highley) Ward. She graduated from Sullivan High School in the Class of 1966 and Eastern Illinois University in 1970. She began working for the Shelby County Rehabilitation Center and later became their Director of Rehabilitation Services. She then worked as a consultant and grant writer before becoming the Director of Rehabilitation Services for the Christian County Mental Health Association. She later became a surveyor for C.A.R.F. Becky retired from her rehabilitation duties to become more involved in other capacities in her community. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Shelbyville, Shelby County Historical Society, Shelbyville Kuilka Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Order of Eastern Star Shelbyville Chapter #69 and a charter member of the Shelby Humane Society. She married John V. Freeman on June 4, 1972 in Sullivan, Illinois.

Surviving are her husband, John; son, Justin Ward Freeman and wife Brenda Renee (Carter) Freeman of Shelbyville; and grandson, William Carter Freeman of Shelbyville.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
