Stephen D. Matheny

Stephen Douglas “Steve” Matheny, 67, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 2:24 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2024 in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Smyser Cemetery, Gays, IL, with Jacob Daniels officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the family. Arrangements are by Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.
Steve was born on February 11, 1956 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Lloyd Everett and Kathleen Virginia (Holder) Matheny. He attended Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1974 and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, serving in Germany. Steve was a retired carpenter, working for Hudson Construction and most recently for Doug Martin, both in Shelbyville. He was a member of Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81 of Shelbyville, IL. Steve was an avid woodworker and enjoyed cooking for others. He married Brenda Kay Rodgers Pruemer on June 5, 2009.
Steve is survived by his wife, Brenda; children, Jamie Wallis (Chad) and Josh Matheny, all of Shelbyville, IL: step-children Jeff Pruemer (Casey) and Jill Pruemer all of Shelbyville, IL; grandchildren, Seth, Tyler, and Arika Wallis and Logan Satterfield; step-grandchildren, Mason and Amelia Pruemer; mother-in-law, Pat Rodgers of Carmi, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Everett Matheny; mother, Kathleen Matheny; brother, Michael E. Matheny (Brenda); sister, Nancy D. Daniels (Ralph); granddaughter, Hannah Wallis; and father-in-law, Norwood Rodgers.
