William J. Durbin
(August 6, 1932 – June 11, 2021)

William Joseph “Bill” Durbin, 88, of Tower Hill, IL, passed away at 8:15 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2021 in St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2021 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Greg Breeden officiating.  Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.  Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, near Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to Shriners Hospitals.

Bill was born on August 6, 1932 in Decatur, IL, the son of Floyd Russell and Virginia Maxine Gardner Durbin.  He attended Macon High School was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.  When he returned from the service, he worked as a union ironworker and was a member of Local 46 in Springfield, IL. He enjoyed fishing and mowing his yard.  Bill married Opal Louise Riley on June 11, 1955.  She died on April 10, 2006

He is survived by his sons, Joseph W. Durbin and wife  Alisha of Oconee, IL and Charles M. “Mike” Durbin and wife Jana of Shelbyville, IL; daughter, Sherry M. Smith of Tower Hill, IL; daughter-in-law, Tina Marie Durbin of Pana, IL: grandchildren, Sarah Wood and husband Tim of Oconee, Jeremy Durbin and wife Becky of Pana, Crystal Durbin of Springfield, Samantha Smith of Tower Hill, Billy Durbin of Pana, Brian Durbin of Pana, Scott Durbin of Pana, Seth Durbin of Charleston, Andrew Durbin and Camryn Durbin both of Shelbyville; 14 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Opal Durbin; son, William D. Durbin; son-in-law, Vernon Smith; brother, Thomas Durbin; sister, Linda Panshot; and granddaughter, Carlie Maxine Durbin.
